Look Lean in Your Jeans
By Anna Lynn Sibal
Jeans are perhaps the one piece of garment that is the hardest and the most frustrating to shop for, at least for us women. The one thing that makes shopping for jeans quite difficult is the fact that we always have to find a pair that fits us perfectly.
Why should the jeans we buy be a good fit? That is because if the pair of jeans that we got does not fit our figures well, it will draw the eyes to the curves and bulges on our bodies that are best hidden rather than revealed. Jeans that do not fit well are never flattering. Instead, they highlight our defects rather than mask them.
Unfortunately, many makers and designers of jeans are unkind. They always expect the wearers of their jeans to be built in lines and figures that are considered ideal, and of course, the ideal does not always hold in reality.
But if your figure is a long shot from being perfect (and so few of us do have perfect figures), you do not have to avoid wearing jeans altogether. All you need to do is to find a pair of jeans that has the right cut and style. You can even look long and lean in your jeans if you know how to choose the right pair that can create the illusion of slimness.
The Jeans that Fits Your Body
The key to attaining the long and lean look when wearing jeans is first understanding your body type. There are dozens of cuts and styles that jeans are made into. Some of them will suit your body type while some will not. Before you go to the mall or log on to the Internet to shop for some jeans, you must analyze your body type and figure out which cut and style of jeans would flatter it best.
When trying out jeans, go for those that have a relaxed fit. If the pants are too big or too loose, they will end up making your hips and thighs look bigger. Tight jeans are best left to the really thin.
Also, so you would look good in jeans and at the same time enjoy a measure of comfort while wearing them, always choose stretch jeans.
The Right Cut and Length for Jeans
Aside from getting jeans that fit just right, the right cut of jeans is also crucial in achieving the long and lean look. Jeans with straight cuts or tapered cuts are great for slim women. On the other hand, women who are top-heavy or bottom heavy should get boot-cut jeans or flared jeans. They lengthen the legs and make you look thinner.
You should also always go for jeans that are just the right length for you. If your jeans are too short, they will make your legs appear shorter. The same goes with cuffs. Buy a pair of jeans that is just long enough to cover the top part of your shoes. If your jeans are too long for you, then you should go and get them altered.
A Little Nitpicking on Your Jeans
When purchasing a pair of jeans, you should also pay attention to little details such as color, embellishment and the placement of the pockets. If you want to look thinner in your jeans, go for dark-colored jeans. Another thing is that if you want your rear end to look smaller, avoid jeans whose pockets are too small or too wide apart. Details like these can make your rear end look bigger than they really are.
Buying a pair of jeans can be a real chore. But if you find the perfect jeans that is just right for you, you will get no end in satisfaction while wearing them. Always take the time and effort to get the right jeans that will make you look leaner and longer.
